The name refectus is from Central Chinese mountains (Qinghai), and the treatments which restrict it as a breeding birds in Himalaya are certainly wrong (HBW Alive)

The name japonicus is from Japan

The name burmanicus is from Burma, a wintering birds. According to James (1988) it is of northern mainland populations. Dickinson & Svensson (2012) agree with that.
