Bird hunting in Georgia
On 16 September 2016 we were watching birds close to Poti, on the Black
Sea coast of Georgia. During the morning we heard several shots from
hunters visible on the southern side of the river, but did not see any on
the beach where we were. But at 8.55 a car appeared, passed us quite close
and continued along the beach towards the mouth of the river.

They appeared to be hunters. They drove quite close to a flock
consisting of Sanderlings, Dunlins and some Ruddy Turnstones and fired with
a shotgun from inside the car. Many birds fell down, the rest of the
flock flew away.
One of the hunters got out of the car and picked up three or four of the dead or
injured birds
.
Then they drove away along the beach, towards the next
flocks which were further away along the beach and shot at them.
Most of the birds were left dead or injured on the beach.
